About Me
Over the past 30 years, I have provided medical and clinical services to patients in the capacity of an HIV Counselor, Licensed Physician’s Assistant, Licensed Drug Addiction Counselor, Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), and Doctor of Education with an Emphasis in Behavioral Health.
I have completed doctoral research on health care professional empathy and alliance building in drug addiction treatment settings. My extensive work and life experience have provided me with the skills, knowledge, and empathy to service a stigmatized population such as those in need of treatment for drug addiction.
Medical/Addiction Education
As a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP), I’m qualified to evaluate employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.
As a SAP I represent the major decision point and in some cases the only decision point) the employer may have in choosing whether or not to place an employee behind the steering wheel of a school bus, in the cockpit of a plane, at the helm of an oil tanker, at the throttle of a train, in the engineer compartment of a subway car, or at the emergency control valves of a natural gas pipeline. My responsibility related to returning an employee to duty is based upon the safety of the public first and foremost!
As a SAP my responsibility to advocate is for neither the employer nor the employee. As a SAP my function is to protect the public interest and safety of the public by professionally evaluating the employee and recommending appropriate education and/or treatment, follow-up tests, and aftercare.
